Today saw the return leg of a set of friendlies in Rockcliff, with Catterick and Stockton making the trip up north. We started the weekend with beautiful sunshine and clear skies, I’m not sure many believed us when we said this was standard on the North East coast… I think they might have been before.
The first game saw a tense game between Stockton and Catterick, Catterick had some players drop out, so a few Blackadders changed teams for a short time to help them out. The game ran pretty close with some lovely play but it was Stockton who took the win 6-3.
Game two got underway shortly after with Blackadders taking on Stockton. With some lovely movement from both teams and a few organised moves Blackadders took the win 9-3.
The final game saw Blackadders take on Crusaders. A few players from Stockton were kind enough to change tops and play the Catterick way for 30 minutes. Both teams putting on a wonderful display and one which saw Blackadders take the win 12-1.
Afterwards, we headed to the bar for some well earned pie and peas, with possibly a pint or two in the sunshine.
We’d like to thank everyone who played, especially those who reffed as well as playing. It really was appreciated and kept all the games flowing well. We’d also like to thank Rockcliff for opening up, doing the pie and peas and keeping us well hydrated. Also to Lesley who kept us all in check and the morning flowing well.
A special mention needs to also go out to the player from Stockton who seemed to ping both their hamstrings, it looked painful. So we hope it’s not too bad and we see you again on the field soon.
A great start to the bank holiday weekend, I think we’d all agree.
