This weekend, Rockcliff hosted a hastily organised tournament on Saturday morning. NERDS at Stockton sadly had to cancel due to issues with their pitches, so not wanting to miss an opportunity to play some games, Lesley sprung to action and setup a round-robin competition and invited all the local NERDS teams to see if they wanted to join.
There were 5 teams in total:
- Newcastle Ravens
- Blackadders
- Rockcliff Rattlers
- Percy Park Pirates
- Whitley Bay Warriors (Baa Baas!)
Broken down into 30 minute slots, with 20 minute games and a 3 minute half, allowed teams a good run about with time to relax a bit between games.
Teams all had a good run about, tries were scored and a lot of fun was had. No tables or anything to play for meant that teams could try some fantastic scores and even a few outrageous moves. Players joined different teams to help each other out when needed too.
Once the Touch was done, Teams went down to the local pub (The Quarry) for a well deserved pint and a good chat. Some stayed for one, some a few more…
Massive thanks to the two full time refs (Rolf and Gareth) and everyone who helped drop in to assist. They’re both coming off injuries, so they appreciated the help. Rolf would like to apologise to the teams in the last game, his calls got a bit ‘dynamic’ at the end…
And most importantly thanks to Lesley, who as always sprung into action when the Touch community needed her, we were all sad that we couldn’t get down to NERDS but Lesley make sure that we all got time on the pitch.
We hope Stocktons pitches are back and playable too, looking forward to a new NERDS series.
